The new platform has been designed by Better Care, a biotechnology company that develops software solutions based on artificial intelligence for continuous patient monitoring. The new system, with an annual cost of 258,000€, allows the biometric data generated by the anesthesia towers of the 162 operating rooms to share data for the duration of the monitoring of each patient treated in the operating room, saving the task of recording data by the healthcare professional, since the system collects them automatically of the operating room devices. The objective is to reduce and optimize the clinical team's workload by allowing large amounts of data to be reviewed at the same time and incorporated into the hospital information system (ARGOS), which will facilitate decision-making and allow better patient care during the surgical process.
Operating rooms are complex environments in which all operating equipment is subject to great demand and to tasks of high attention and precision. In recent years, the arrival of numerous advanced technologies has turned these areas into more complex places with numerous devices and screens. With the objective of facilitating the work of healthcare professionals and ensuring maximum patient safety, BC Link, the system designed by Better Care will be responsible for integrating, processing and interpreting all the data (waves, vital signs, trends and alarms) of the devices connected to the patient in real time, as well as for formulating hypotheses and predicting critical events thanks to the artificial intelligence. In addition, the new software is compatible with all manufacturers that live in a hospital; this facilitates the operation of this technology and optimizes time and human and technical resources.
In addition, all these parameters and signals from the surgical areas of ICS hospitals will be automatically integrated into their Global Variable Repository (*RGV) and from there to the Clinical Workstation of the ARGOS System, facilitating remote patient monitoring. In this sense, the project covers all the surgical areas belonging to the hospitals in the ICS network: the Vall d'Hebrón University Hospital, the Bellvitge University Hospital, the Germans Trias University Hospital, the University Hospital of Girona Dr. Josep Trueta, the Arnau de Vilanova University Hospital, the Joan XXIII University Hospital in Tarragona, the Tortosa Verge de la Cinta Hospital and the Viladecans Hospital and the Santa Caterina Hospital (IAS), through an agreement with the ICS.
This system began with pilot tests throughout the month of September and will be implemented in all hospitals progressively, together with the new Surgical Treatment Station of l'Anesthesiòleg, in the ARGOS project, SALUT 4D. “Our work for more than 12 years with hospital managers has allowed us to adapt our solutions to meet the real needs of healthcare management and clinical practice. It is an honor to be part of this great ICS project and to contribute all our knowledge and experience in artificial intelligence and data interoperability applied to the surgical environment,” explained Xavier García, CEO of Better Care.
The new Healthcare Information System meets the requirements established by the Organic Law on the Protection of Personal Data (*LOPD), the Regulation on security measures for automated files containing personal data (*RO 994/1999), and any other related regulations that apply, ensuring maximum security of the data processed and its storage.
